Pride of Place
CV One, The Landscape Group and Coventry City Council
work hard to compliment themed beds, parklands, pathways and tourist
attractions by ensuring that these key sites are well maintained and
supported by well positioned, informative signage. In conjunction with
these efforts, street furniture is kept clean and safe whilst artistic
statues and freshly laid pavements are encouraged as part of the
sustainable street development for the public to use here in Coventry.
Roundabout signage can be found throughout the city centre sponsored by
the Coventry in Bloom campaign with local businesses enthusiastically
offering their support. Fountains and city landmarks, new steel benches,
litter bins and poster sites are clean and well maintained with car park
poster sites and local street signage carrying the ever important Bloom
message. Modern, metal signage now sits alongside the older signs of
medieval Coventry ensuring that key tourist attractions and local
landmarks such as Coventry Cathedral and University Square are
adequately sign posted. Sponsored planter boxes bursting with floral
vibrancy all year round add colour to the city centre whilst working to
promote local businesses in the area.
The multimillion pound redevelopment to transform
Ironmonger Square in the city centre is now successfully completed. The
fresh and contemporary space is paved with sandstone and features great
new seating, lighting, litterbins and 13 new trees to add greenery to
the area. This space provides a clean, safe and open environment for
shoppers, pedestrians and visitors whilst providing another alternative
space for city centre events and promotional activity.
Work has begun in the much loved Cathedral Lanes area to
develop and improve the Broadgate precinct in time to welcome the world
for Olympic Football taking place here in Coventry during 2012. The area
will become completely pedestrianised providing the perfect location for
a full range of events, designed to be flexible enough to accommodate
virtually anything, live music and markets included. The changes are
aimed at making the city centre a more attractive place to live and
visit, encouraging high quality bars and restaurants to boost Coventry’s
night time economy whilst making it a safer environment for people to
enjoy in the evening. Coventry City Council are also working hard to
redevelop other areas in the city such as the route from Coventry Train
Station to the city centre; two subways will be closed providing safer
and
brighter access to shops and other city locations. Areas of the city
centre are to be de-cluttered by removing unnecessary traffic signals to
better show off Coventry’s wonderful new buildings along with older,
famous heritage sites. The former Coventry sorting office will soon
undergo a £50 million development to transform this area of the city -
the brand new, prime location will include a new supermarket, fantastic
student accommodation, health centre, swimming pool and a better
connection to
Coventry’s fantastic Canal Basin - one of Coventry’s best kept secrets.
Work shall also begin on redeveloping central shopping locations such as
Bull Yard, Shelton Square and City Arcade. By working alongside the
council, CV One and The Landscape Group will work to open these spaces
up, provide fresh planting with new beds and trees to be used in
transforming Coventry in time for 2012. The hope is that these new
developments will go some way to improving Coventry’s reputation,
increase city centre footfall, show off the wonderful features we have
here and restore the pride residents already have in the city,
encouraging outside visitors, investors and returning business.
As part of the lottery funded developments at the War
Memorial Park, work has taken place to thoroughly cleanse the iconic
memorial Cenotaph which takes pride of place in the park grounds.
